Winter in the Schoolhouse
We are celebrating fun winter themes in The Little Red Schoolhouse all winter long with a variety of books that lend themselves to great writing activities! ✏️
“H” for Hat
Our letter of the week is “H”, and this week’s book study is on ‘The Hat’ By: Jan Brett. 📚 Little learners explore words that begin with ‘H’, and have fun collecting hay and making text -self connections by dressing up in winter hats just like the characters in the book! 🧣🧤
Our students are loving our book study of “The Hat’ by Jan Brett. 📚 Little learners are making meaningful text-self, and text-world connections with our book by playing dress up like the characters in the story!🧤🧣 Even our farm animals got to join in on the fun! 🐐🐔🐷
“M” for Mitten
It’s Mitten Monday 🧤with another fun winter themed book by Jan Brett ‘ The Mitten’! Learners have fun making text-self connections dressing up like the characters in the book,🧣 and working on fine motor skills in sewing mittens of their own!🧤
This weeks letter, M is for mitten! 🧤 Pre-k -kinder friends have fun playing “I -spy” 🔍and finding our letter of the week in our classroom!
Ice Castles
In the Little Red Schoolhouse, we are learning all about ice! ❄️ Students will discover what temperature water freezes, and melts, by exploring water in its different forms through liquids and solids experiments 🔍and journaling.📝
Download your own Ice Lesson, and follow along as students learn about the water cycle. 🌨
We made “ice castles” that tie in with our lesson by using Bundt pan molds and dying our water. The students loved adding arctic animals, rosemary from our garden, and even sliced oranges to our molds for an extra fun sensory experience! Once frozen, sprinkle with salt, and watch them melt!
Snowflake Science
2-5th grade learners explore our winter themes of snow & ice with a book study of ‘Snowflake Bentley’ and crafting snowflake cinquain poems. ❄️For a fun sensory experience, learners create edible snowflakes out of pretzels and mini marshmallows, and eat their way through learning about their snowflakes six branches. ❄️
