Black History Month in the Schoolhouse
Hi mamas,
How did you celebrate Black History Month this year with your little learners?
Here at the Schoolhouse, we created some beautiful K-2nd & 3-5th grade lessons for students to read, 📚write, ✏️ learn, craft, ✂️ and dress up 👗 just like the amazing historical non-fiction characters from our text!
Katherine Johnson
1st and 2nd grade friends learned all about the amazing accomplishments of Katherine Johnson- one of NASA‘s first black female mathematicians. In this lesson I created, students learned that Katherine Johnson’s love language was math. 🧮
Johnson skipped seven grades graduating before her older siblings, broke down barriers for black women in the male dominated industry of aerospace, and was awarded the ‘Freedom Award’- the highest civilian honor. Katherine Johnson, you inspire us! ❤️
Rosa Parks
Second grade friends share their favorite character traits from our text and read their “Dear Rosa Parks” letters. 📝
Mae Jemison
K-5th grade learners enjoyed learning all about the amazing Mae Jemison. 👩🏾🚀
Sojourner Truth
Watch our text detective 🔍 3rd-5th graders share their “Dear Sojourner Truth” letters and describe character traits from our text. 📝📚
