Donut Lesson
“D” is for Donut
We spent a week on the letter D is for donut, using our book “The Magic Maple Tree” as a mentor text to play text detectives, make predictions, learn about the season’s, days of the week, and math concepts!
K-5th grade learners got to try their hand at being Author’s and illustrator’s themselves with our open ended story brainstorming, writing & illustrating sequel ideas of their own!
This week we our sharing some of our fun ‘extension craft ideas’ that go with our book, The Magic Maple Tree. After our reading, students loved making donuts of their own out of white mini pumpkins, and painting them chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry and donning them with sprinkles just like some of the donuts in our book!
Donut Crafts
Learners loved making text-text connections in reading other books about donuts, and creating “craftivities” as extension activities that helped them make rich text- self connections.
Using fun “craftivities “ like rolling out Play dough in the shape of donuts, and baking up some fun in decorating them with Jewels, adds to the reading experience and makes for meaningful connections with the book!
